Jordan Green

Co-Owner @ J&L Green Farm

Jordan Green first tasted farming at an early age. Born in upstate New York, he spent his childhood on a 1000-acre private lake preserve and developed a love for animals and the outdoors. Working in his family's gardens and raising egg laying chickens were activities he enjoyed every summer. As a teenager on his parents' Virginia homestead, he managed a herd of dairy goats, raised pastured poultry, helped out with his mother's large gardens, and worked in his father's landscaping business.

He attended Joel Salatin's Polyface Farm as an apprentice from September 2001 through November 2002. From 2002 through 2004, he coached several aspiring farmers on the east coast in the process of starting their own sustainable farms. (A little note: You can now follow Jordan Green - FarmBuilder on Facebook or Farmbuilder Website at www.farmbuilder.us.) For five years from 2004 to 2009, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps with multiple deployments around the world.

Upon leaving active military service in 2009, Jordan and his wife Laura started their own 200-acre sustainable farm in Edinburg, Virginia, and have been steadily growing it since then. They raise animals ethically, entirely on pasture and forest, and in harmony with nature. They currently offer pasture-raised poultry, forest-fed pork, and grass-fed and grass-finished beef. They also collaborate with local farms with the same philosophy to provide truly farm-fresh eggs, organically grown vegetables, and other farm foods.

Together with their three children, they work to bring healing to eroding farmland, steward the resources of their farm, and advance the cause of sustainable farming.
